About Us
Who We Are:
Ontario Bloodhound Rescue (OBR) is a small, not-for-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to helping homeless and abandoned Bloodhounds, placing them in loving, approved homes across Ontario and multiple US States.
What We Do:
OBR is committed to placing homeless Bloodhounds into permanent, loving homes as family companions. All Bloodhounds in our care are spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, administered heartworm prevention, brought up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and provided any necessary medical care. They are placed in foster homes where their temperaments, personalities and needs are evaluated so that we can find the best possible match between each individual Bloodhound and their adoptive family. Although the goal for all our adoptions is a lifetime commitment, we understand that sometimes circumstances beyond anyone’s control occur. OBR is committed to each Bloodhound for the remainder of their life and if, at any time and for any reason, the adoption does not work out, we require that the Bloodhound be returned to Ontario Bloodhound Rescue.
Why Do Bloodhound Need Rescuing?
Bloodhounds enter into our care for a variety of reasons, generally through no fault of their own, rather a change in their owner’s life, such as divorce, new child, allergies, no time to dedicate to the care of the family dog, relocation, new job/longer hours, just to name a few. In today’s throw-away society, some people are just not committed to the lifetime responsibility of adding a dog to their family. At times the financial responsibility of adding a dog to their family was not taken into account. Bloodhounds are a breed with many positive traits and attributes. For those that love the breed, there is no other breed comparable. However, Bloodhounds are not a breed for everyone and are often acquired without the proper research to ensure they are a good match for the family before bringing one home.
