One look into his bright, brown eyes and you feel yourself starting to grin. There is something about 2 year young  Cletus. Is it his wonderful puppy energy and silly dog antics? Is it the because he is a happy-go-lucky, gentle giant rolled up in soft wrinkles? Is it because he loves to be loved, brushed, scratched and petted, and loves to give kisses and hugs in return? Is it because he actually enjoys having his nails trimmed and his ears cleaned? Is it because he teases you by chewing on rawhide whenever you watch him and on everything else when you turn away? Is it because he thrives on long walks, long romps in the dog park, and long sniffs around the backyard? In all likelihood, it is all of the above and more.
Because he is such a sociable dog, he loves greeting people at the door and meeting new people on his walks; he loves other dogs, both big and small, and even loves cats. Clever Cletus also knows his fair share of commands, including sit, stay, wait, watch, okay, fetch, get it, and no jumping (on people, please). Although he likes lying down in his crate and even going to sleep in it, he can be very stubborn about actually entering it. He sometimes plays the acrobat, climbing on tables and jumping off the back of the couch, but being so treat motivated, he is quick to calm down. Still very much the enthusiastic pup, he sometimes gets overly excited and forgets his good doggy manners. An immediate redirection is all the reminder he needs.

Like most dogs, he’s a bit of a scaredy-dog, seeking shelter under a table at the first sound of thunder or fireworks. When his foster mom is away for 4 to 5 hours, 3 days a week, Cletus remains snugly content in the company of his two doggy stepsisters. Because he is still growing toward adulthood, the mischievous side of him still has to be tamed, and his walking skills improved. But loving patience coupled with positive reinforcement will be the keys to his ultimate success. All Cletus needs now is someone special to look into his bright, brown eyes, grin, and take him home.
