If you would like to donate towards Tucker's care and would like a tax receipt, please donate through OBR's Canada Helps link.
Sweet Tucker sure has had a tough go in life. This gentle soul was sold years ago at a flea market in Pennsylvania and bought by a man looking to make a buck breeding him to his female bloodhound. Both Tucker and his canine companion, Lady, lived chained outdoors year round. Eventually they had two litters of puppies. The first litter all died, likely from the cold or perhaps Lady suffocated them in attempts to keep them warm and alive. The second litter of six weren't selling too great, so after the sale of the first pup, the "owner" was willing to relinquish the remaining five pups to Ontario Bloodhound Rescue, but he wasn't keen on giving up Lady and Tucker.

Thanks to the persuasiveness of a follow rescuer in the area, the "owner" was convinced to hand over Tucker and Lady and they were freed from their misery living on the end of a chain.

Tucker suffered from lack of vet care that required addressing including being neutered, HW tested, vaccinated, chest X-ray (he has a slight murmur, but no heart enlargement), a large growth removed from his rectum area, cherry eye, treatment for a tooth abscess, then a dental to address the remaining dental issues, including a tumor removal on his gumline that was biopsied and thankfully was benign. At this point Tucker's care was in excess of $1000.00.

Tucker has been in the loving care of his foster Mom Lisa and has recovered well from his surgeries. But sadly, Sunday, February 2 Tucker began showing clear signs of bloat. Thanks to the careful eye of Lisa, she recognized the signs and rushed Tucker into the emergency clinic where he underwent surgery for Gastric Dilation (bloat) with Volvulus (torsion).

OBR doesn’t have the funds to cover this emergency surgery, costing in excess of $3000.00, but Tucker has come so far to start his happy, new life, that OBR couldn't see this sweetheart of a senior lose his life now because of lack of funding. Perhaps it wasn't the "right" financially responsible decision, but it was the "right" decision with Tucker's best interest at heart. This boy deserves a chance to live as a loved companion throughout his golden years, after all he’s endured on the end of a chain.

We hope that everyone that is able, even in the smallest way, will consider a donation to go directly to Tucker’s surgery and after-care.
One hundred percent of funds raised will go directly to Tucker's care. Tucker remains at the emergency clinic and we have a hefty bill to pay before he comes home. All donations, regardless of the amount, will go a long, long way in showing Tucker how much everyone cares about him and is routing for him during his recovery.

Donations can be made securely on-line from this page, or by cheque.

Cheques should be made payable to Ontario Bloodhound Rescue and mailed to:

Update:

Tucker came through the surgery Sunday night very well. It was an exceptionally long surgery, nearly 4 hours, as his stomach had twisted, not once, but twice…the first time the emergency vet has seen a double twist. Thankfully, because of the quick reaction of his foster mom, there was no damage to any tissue and his spleen was healthy. Tucker had a good night in recovery, but we won’t feel totally out of the woods for another couple of days while he recuperates under the watchful eye at the clinic. Tucker will remain at the Ottawa Veterinarian Hospital for one or two more days. We are very relieved to hear that his recovery has been unremarkable thus far, which is very, very encouraging.

Thank you in advance for everyone’s well wishes for Tucker and for considering a donation, even it’s just a few dollars (in numbers we DO make a difference). It’s been a long, bitter winter and OBR has been called upon to save numerous outdoor bloodhounds this year and we don’t want to find ourselves in a position of no resources for the ones ‘waiting in the wings” that may need OBR’s help.
